A bottle of NOLA Tinacci 2018 No Background 1000

St. George NOLA Coffee Liqueur

A special cup of coffee, a legendary cafe, and two souls falling in love. St. George NOLA is head distiller Dave Smith’s homage to the chicory coffee he shared with his wife as their love story began. Its timeless recipe marries Ethiopian coffee, roasted French chicory, and Madagascar vanilla—and it’s been winning accolades for its faithful flavor since 2014.

Format: 750ml
ABV: 25%
Availability: Widely available

Carries the taste of very good dark-roast coffee to an absurd length. The taste of coffee lingers on the palate, along with notes of hazelnut and the earthy bitterness of chicory. The result is fresh and sophisticated.

The Spirit

St. George NOLA Coffee Liqueur was inspired by our love for New Orleans–style coffee, as well as by head distiller Dave Smith’s own love story. Spirits are our form of self-expression, and NOLA is Dave’s way of recreating his memories of courting Julia. The two even spent their first Valentine’s Day as newlyweds helping to roast the coffee beans that would go into the maiden batch.

What’s in it?

It took us well over a year to find the perfect ingredients for NOLA. We chose to work with Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee beans because they feature bright berry notes with rich, earthy undertones. Roasting them light, medium and dark allows us to showcase all the nuances these wonderful beans have to offer. The coffee is complemented by plum and date notes from French-roasted chicory root, which gives the liqueur its trademark “New Orleans” flavor. Madagascar vanilla and organic cane sugar round out the liqueur with their rich, luxurious sweetness.

The Process

Most visitors to the Big Easy fall in love with New Orleans, but only a lucky few fall in love in New Orleans.

Head distiller Dave Smith was one of those lucky few. He met his future wife in New Orleans while visiting in 2007. NOLA was the backdrop to their courtship, which played out all over the city’s famously sultry streets, jazz clubs, gardens, and cafés. And when they finally married, a New Orleans brass band burst into song after they’d exchanged their vows.

Lucky for us, Dave and his bride chose to make their home here in the Bay Area. Lucky for you, the city of New Orleans continued to occupy a place in Dave’s heart—so much so that he always wanted to make a coffee liqueur that tasted like the New Orleans–style coffees he and his bride had enjoyed during their courtship.

We hope that everyone who tastes our NOLA Coffee Liqueur loves it as much as we do. But really, Julia, this one’s for you.

The Experience

St. George NOLA Coffee Liqueur tastes like chicory coffee at Café du Monde with a teaspoon of sugar and a heart full of love. You’ll find notes of hazelnut, bittersweet chocolate, red wine, and plums over a base of rich, earthy coffee.

Sipped neat, NOLA Coffee Liqueur is delicious alongside breakfast, dessert, and any meal in between—with each sip revealing more character. In cocktails, it provides a touch of sweetness, earthy depth, and that robust roasted flavor that coffee lovers crave. NOLA makes an incredible Espresso Martini, but we also love it in a Revolver, a White Russian, or a Coffee Old Fashioned.
