The original Basil Gimlet debuted in 2005 at Rye, a San Francisco bar that helped drive the then-nascent cocktail revival in the city by the bay. Greg Lindgren muddled basil leaves in his shaker tin to add an herbal component to the timeless triumvirate of gin, lime and sugar. Using our Basil Eau De Vie in its place creates a deeper, richer basil flavor—and without the little floating bits of leaf. To mix, add all ingredients to a cocktail tin, fill three quarters full with ice and shake for 10 seconds. Double strain into a coupe and garnish with a basil leaf.
