RELEASE NEWS: APPLE BRANDY, DRY RYE REPOSADO GIN & BALLER SINGLE MALT WHISKEY
April 2019 | Our 2019 release of California Reserve Apple Brandy has started rolling out—and will be shipping to more states as we get deeper into spring. The 2019 release is a field blend of local apples sourced from a family-owned farm in Mendocino County (as were previous releases), and aged 2–7 years in used American whiskey casks and used American and French oak wine casks.
We’ve also been going strong on Dry Rye Reposado Gin production this year because we know how many of you have fallen in love with this genre-bending barrel-aged spirit. Due to the hard work of our production team, bottles should now be easier to find than ever before. (Thanks, team!)
And last but not least, we're greatly expanding our Baller Single Malt Whiskey distribution this spring—to twice as many states as before! In addition to all the states Baller has already been available (AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IL, MA, NJ, NV, NY, RI, TX, and WA), Baller is now also beginning to roll out to CT, DE, HI, IN, KY, LA, MD, MI, MO, MN, NH, upstate NY, PA, SC, TN, and WI.

April 2019 | Remember how we swore we'd never make an agave spirit again? Oops, we're doing it again. There's a movement afoot to grow agave here in California—led by "Mezcalifornia" evangelist Craig Reynolds. When we had the opportunity to get involved with Craig and some of the farmers he's joined forces with, we jumped at it. We did a test run of California agave a few years ago that showed proof of concept. This year, we've brought in another small batch of agave that was grown and pit roasted in Yolo County. We'll do our best to make something unique and delicious from it.
If we end up creating something worthy of sharing, it'll be a very limited release available only through our tasting room. We'll keep you posted, amigos...
ANOTHER JAMES BEARD NOD FOR MASTER DISTILLER LANCE WINTERS
March 2019 | Twenty-three years after walking through the doors of St. George Spirits with a bottle of homemade whiskey as his resume, master distiller Lance Winters received his fourth nomination for a James Beard award—and has been shortlisted for the second year running as a finalist in the category of Outstanding Wine, Spirits or Beer Producer. We’re sincerely grateful to all at the Foundation and everyone else who threw support this way—and thankful for our incredible distillery team, winners one and all, without whom this honor would not be possible. As demand for our whiskey continues to grow year after year, we expect interest in Lot 18 to exceed availability. That said, we hope that the information here will help you in your search:
If you're in California...
Due to the limited nature of the release, we will not be pouring Lot 18 in the distillery’s tasting room.
However, our distributor has picked up its order of Lot 18, and bottles have already started showing up with California spirits shops, restaurants, and bars. Bottles will continue to pop up throughout November and into December as more orders reach our distributor.
Since we don’t have access to retailers' real-time inventory, we unfortunately aren’t able to pinpoint where and when bottles will be available.
As always, we suggest you begin your search by contacting your favorite brick-and-mortar spirits specialty shops to let them know of your interest. As a reminder: The onsite shop at the distillery (Heads, Hearts & Tails) is a separate business, so it’s best to contact them directly with questions about inventory. You could also try larger chain retailers that specialize in or carry spirits (such as BevMo, Total Wine, and Whole Foods); with past releases, it has typically taken longer for bottles to reach larger stores than independent retailers.
If you're in another state...
Lot 18 will start landing outside California in the coming weeks and continue rolling out throughout the holidays. If past releases are any indication, bottles in other states won’t fly off the shelves quite as fast as in California. RELEASE NEWS: BALLER ROLLING, ROLLING, ROLLING
April 2018 | Since we first released our Baller Single Malt Whiskey in 2016, it’s racked up all sorts of accolades and landed on wish lists far and wide—but it’s been a California exclusive for the last two years, and even within the state it’s been a tough bottle to find.
We have some good news, though: More Baller is rolling out now in California, and for the first time since its 2016 release, Baller will also be available beyond California! Not much, mind you… but starting this spring, Baller will make its way to Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Texas, and Washington.
Baller will still be a tough bottle to find in any state, but we’re thrilled to finally be able to share it more widely.
Since we don’t have access to retailers’ real-time inventory, we aren’t able to pinpoint exactly where and when bottles will be available at retail. If you’re looking for a bottle of your own, your best bet is to inquire with your preferred spirits specialty shop or grocer. If you’re looking for a pour at a bar near you, please let us know where you’re located and we’ll endeavor to assist.

April 2018 | Ever since we released our three St. George vodkas (All Purpose Vodka, Green Chile Vodka, and California Citrus Vodka) in 2015, people have been asking us when they’d be available in 200ml mini bottles (like our St. George gins are). We heard you loud and clear… and we are thrilled to announce that our vodkas will soon be available as a collection of three 200ml bottles—the perfect size for sampling and gifting!

February 2018 | The James Beard Foundation has announced its 2018 semifinalists, and for the third year running, St. George master distiller and president Lance Winters has made the list in the category of Outstanding Wine, Beer, or Spirits Professional. This honor comes just as Lance is marking his 22nd year at St. George, and caps a remarkable decade of new releases and growth for the distillery. Lance reacted to the news by saying, "The greatest honor that can ever be bestowed upon anyone is the company they keep. Based on that, I've been winning for years." It’s hard to argue with that, but a James Beard Foundation Award would be pretty sweet, too... so please keep your fingers crossed that he advances to the next round!
RELEASE NEWS: ST. GEORGE 35TH ANNIVERSARY WHISKEY
November 2017 | In celebration of 35 years at the vanguard of the American artisan distillation movement, we’re excited to share St. George 35th Anniversary Single Malt Whiskey. This whiskey is the result of decades of craftsmanship, diligent treasure hunting among our own barrel reserves, and painstaking blending.
St. George 35th Anniversary Single Malt Whiskey is comprised of eight of the most venerable barrels in the St. George single malt library, ranging 6–18 years old. The blend includes whiskey that Lance and Jörg distilled in 1997 (the fourth barrel of St. George Single Malt Whiskey ever laid down). Also of note is our use of six French oak finishing barrels that came from one of our favorite California dessert wine producers. “Using their barrels to finish our single malt has been a dream of mine for almost 19 years,” says Lance. “I hope that after tasting our 35th Anniversary Single Malt, you’ll understand why.”
We finished a portion of our Lot 12, 14, and Lot 15 releases in these casks, included some of our Lot 17 in the blend, and also incorporated a wildcard: St. George single malt aged in a Tennessee whiskey barrel, then finished in a Bourbon barrel that had previously held St. George California Agricole Rum. Dave included this barrel in the blend precisely because it was an outlier, saying “As with jazz, sometimes it’s the unexpected notes that are most memorable and engaging.”
On the nose, St. George 35th Anniversary Single Malt Whiskey opens with notes of cherry cola and a touch of coffee. Over time, these aromatics give way to walnut baklava, with a dose of mandarin orange, stone fruit, and rose geranium. On the palate: dried fruit and more cola, with grain, cocoa, and a hint of black pepper. The finish is rich and creamy, with warm baking spices and the lingering sensation of Sauternes.
This special anniversary release is limited to only 771 hand-numbered and signed bottles—making it a collector’s item for true connoisseurs of American single malt whiskey. Bottles will begin to roll out in California in mid-November (sometime after November 15), and will pop up nationally at a handful of select bars, restaurants, and spirits shops through the holiday season. Due to the extraordinarily limited nature of this release, this is will be a very tough bottle to find.

October 2016 | Our Dry Rye Reposado Gin is back! If you already know, you know… If not, we hope that this year’s release will be your chance to discover our offering to the gods of wine, whiskey, and gin. We make Dry Rye Reposado Gin by resting our malty, spicy Dry Rye Gin in French and American oak wine casks (10–30 months for this year’s release). The resulting spirit has a robust malt character with piquant spice and the suggestion of stone fruit.

May 2016 | We’re excited to announce the release of our new aperitivo: Bruto Americano! This should whet your appetite…
NorCal, you’re in luck: You’re up first! Our California distributor has picked up its initial Northern California order, so bottles are starting to make their way to local spirits shops, bars, and restaurants. We have also added Bruto as a tasting menu option here at the distillery as of today! (As always, we recommend booking ahead at stgeorgespirits.com/visit.)
SoCal, you’re up next: Bruto should start landing near you in the next week or two. Then onto Illinois, Louisiana, and other states as the Bruto roll-out continues across the country this summer. And if you’re going to Tales of the Cocktail this July, you’ll also be able to taste Bruto at our Tasting Room and Bruto Americano Launch Party!
We’ll update our Bruto web page with distribution info as the roll-out progresses. Bruto is not a limited-run item like our whiskeys, so you can rest assured that bottles should be widely available once orders start to land with retailers state by state. May 2016 | After a way-too-long hiatus, our spirits have returned to Alberta and British Columbia! As this newsletter goes to press, our three gins, vodkas, and absinthe are available in AB and BC via Wirtz Beverage Canada. To our fans in those provinces, thank you for your patience and the warm welcome back.
Meanwhile, our pear and raspberry brandy are heading to Quebec. Either brandy would make a nice digestif post-poutine, post-tourtière, post-pretty-much-anything.
Australia, we’re comin' at ya, too. Look for our Botanivore Gin, Terroir Gin, All Purpose Vodka, and NOLA Coffee Liqueur at Cole’s starting around June.
On the domestic front, we’re in the process of adding Hawaii and New Jersey to the list of U.S. states where we have distribution. We hope to be up and running in both HI and NJ later this summer.

Exciting, right? We sure think so. Now for some real talk: Due to the limited nature of the release, we will not be pouring Baller in our tasting room. Additionally, distribution will be limited to California only for the time being. (Sorry, friends in other states. March 2016 | Ready for a bigger, better, bitterer bar? Good, because Bruto Americano is coming soon!
Bruto is a St. George take on a bitter aperitivo liqueur. We've been experimenting with recipes for several years now, and after many test rounds (and countless Bruto and sodas), we've finally hit on an aperitivo expression that makes us as proud as it does thirsty.
We're planning to release Bruto in California in May, with other states starting to roll out over the summer. Our next newsletter will have more details, so stay tuned...
LANCE CELEBRATES 20 YEARS AT ST. GEORGE—AND A JAMES BEARD NOMINATION
February 2016 | This year marks Lance's 20th anniversary here at the distillery! When St. George founder Jörg Rupf hired Lance back in 1996, the plan was to try things out for a month-long trial period. Two decades later, we'd say that things worked out pretty well for everyone. The big 2-0 was also marked by a very special present from the James Beard Foundation—a JBFA nomination for Lance in the category of Outstanding Beer, Wine, or Spirits Professional. Congratulations, Lance, and thank you from all of us for pouring your heart and soul into the distillery for the past 20 years!
RUM ON HOLD
January 2016 | Due to difficulties this year in sourcing the type of California sugarcane we use for making our rum, we will not be making a new batch of our California agricole in 2016.
On the plus side: We put away rum from previous sugarcane harvests, so more of our barrel-aged expression is in the works. We'll be sure to let you know when it's ready, as well as when we have another unaged rum release on the way.

November 2015 | Our 2015 release of California Reserve Apple Brandy is coming soon! This year’s release is comprised of a field blend of apples all sourced from a single family-owned orchard within 150 miles of the distillery. This year’s release was aged in French and American wine casks, along with barrels that once held B&E Bourbon and St. George Single Malt Whiskey.
Our California distributor just picked up its order, so we expect bottles to start showing up with NorCal and SoCal spirits shops, restaurants, and bars within the next week or so. Shipments to other parts of the country will take a bit more time, but are already en route to Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, Nevada, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Washington DC, and Wisconsin—with other states to follow.

October 2015 | Lot 15 of St. George Single Malt Whiskey has been bottled and orders are starting to come in from our distributors in various states. Our California distributor picked up its Northern California order today, so we expect bottles to land soon with local spirits shops, restaurants, and bars. Shipments are also en route to Illinois, Massachusetts, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. Southern California, Florida, Missouri, Washington, and other states will follow.
Bottles of Lot 15 will reach different parts of the country at different times based on when our distributors pick up their orders and how long each shipment takes. We’ll know where to find bottles only once we receive order information directly from our distributor partners. If you’re interested in finding a bottle near you, email us with your city and state, and we’ll let you know as soon as we have info for your region.
We will be releasing only 3,000 bottles of Lot 15, and the unfortunate fact is that not everyone who wants a bottle will be able to find one. Last year, our Lot 14 release was named Craft Whiskey of the Year by Whisky Advocate and St. George Spirits was named Craft Whisky Producer of the Year by Whisky Magazine—which means that even more whiskey lovers will be clamoring for a bottle of their own this year.

Release news: Dry Rye Reposado Gin
June 2015 | Get ready for the second coming of our barrel-aged Dry Rye Reposado Gin! You snapped up every bottle we released back in 2013, so we know you’re more than ready for a refill. Need a refresher? This offering to the gods of wine, whiskey, and gin is made by resting our malty, spicy Dry Rye Gin in French and American oak wine casks. Because rye whiskey is the base spirit, it lends itself beautifully to some time in barrel (just over a year in this case). The result is a slightly floral spirit with notes of spiced fruitcake.
Shipments are underway to our California distributor, as well as to our distributors in about 25 other states—which means bottles should be landing near you very soon! Today is St. George’s Day!
April 23, 2015 | We’ll be marking the occasion by adding a very special pour to our tasting menu: Lot 14 of St. George Single Malt Whiskey. As far as we know, bottles of Lot 14 are sold out nationally (and will not be available for purchase here at the distillery), but this is a chance to taste the spirit that Whisky Advocate named Craft Whisky of the Year!
•Lot 14 will be available to taste only on Thursday, April 23 during regular tasting room hours.
•California law limits distilleries to pouring a maximum of six 1/4 oz pours per person per day, so tastings on April 23 will include one 1/4 oz pour of Lot 14 plus five other pours from our current tasting menu.

All three vodkas are available to taste here at the distillery tasting room as of today! We are excited to have you come by to taste, but as always, we advise booking ahead before making the trip over here.
Our California distributor also now has all three of our new vodkas in stock, which means that NorCal and SoCal bars, restaurants, and spirits shops can start placing orders. Good news for Californians, who should start to see bottles pop up all over the state very soon!
To make these three vodkas, we distill fresh produce and fruit on our copper stills using the same artisanal methods we rely on to make our flagship brandies and fruit liqueurs. Combining these distillates with a non-GMO base spirit results in three unique spirits that stand proudly among the rest of the St. George portfolio.
All three new vodkas have also started rolling out to other parts of the country. Orders are on their way already to Arizona, Colorado, DC, Illinois, Florida, Kentucky, Maryland, Nevada, and Washington, with many other states to follow shortly. Once our distribution partners receive their orders and start making deliveries, we’ll be able to help you find them.

Bottling has begun, but we won’t be rolling out the new vodkas until all three have been bottled and orders have come in through our distributors (likely in late February for California, March for the rest of the country).

In bestowing this award, Lew Bryson writes: “Delicate fruit, nuts, and sweet malt combine like a perfect pastry in the nose.
